About This Event

On 18 September 2026, a guided walking tour will depart from Queenborough Station to explore the coastal route between Queenborough and Sheerness. The journey passes via the docks and covers the history of Queenborough, which was originally planned around a castle built by Edward III. Participants should expect prices ranging from £12.50 to £17.50 for this outdoor excursion led by various guides.

A walk between the little Kent port of Queenborough and the seaside town of Sheerness via the docks

The walk starts at Queenborough - a town planned around a castle built by Edward III. While the castle is no longer there, the charming harbour town remains, with many historic buildings remaining and we will look at these on the walk and hear how Lord Nelson and Lady Hamilton stayed in the town. Leaving Queensborough we will walk along the bank of the Medway and then through the strange landscape of the car import and export yards to the port of Sheerness. Here we will explore the historic Blue Town, before finishing on the seafront, within sight of the wreck of the SS Richard Montgomery - a World War Two ammunition ship which still lies of the Sheerness coast. At the end of the walk there are all the joys of the English seaside.

The walk is four miles and includes some steps.

To get to Queensborough take a train to Sittingbourne and change for a Sheerness train. The journey takes about 90 minutes from London Victoria or London St Pancras. If you wish you can meet me at St Pancras and travel together.

Please bring water as refreshments may not be available.
