About This Event

The Macrobert Arts Centre in Stirling will host a community event on 16 September 2026, where participants will explore how photography, decomposing underpants, and a pile of fridges can help see the places around us through different eyes.

How can photography, decomposing underpants and a pile of fridges help us see the places around us through different eyes?

Over the past five years, artist and photographer Ted Leeming has been exploring Scotland’s changing relationship with rural and urban land through an evolving photographic enquiry.

Moving beyond traditional photography that tends to focus on the visual elements of the landscape, this project investigates how images can reveal hidden relationships between people, nature, history and the decisions that shape the places we inhabit.

This talk offers an insight into the creative process behind the work - from a 3000 mile immersive cycle around Scotland to visual storytelling and mapping generational land use change to burying underpants! It explores how photographers can move beyond documenting what is visible, to questioning what is unseen, overlooked or taken for granted.

An invitation for photographers, students and anyone interested in how creative practice can help us imagine different futures for the places we share.

For a additional, more in depth dive into the thinking and research that sit behind the project, why not also come along to Ted’s talk on 30th September, Our Place in Time. You can book that event here.

About Ted

Ted's practice focuses on issues relating to nature, climate and place. Through photographic and increasingly multi-sensory methods he explores the systemic tensions and competitions driving land use conflict – and the regenerative practices already resolving them – to start conversations that shift decisions towards ecological and cultural resilience.
