Roy Dennis OBE is one of the UK’s most influential conservationists, renowned for his pioneering work in species reintroduction and wildlife restoration. Born in Hampshire in 1940, he began his career at bird observatories on Lundy and Fair Isle, developing a lifelong passion for ornithology and ecological recovery.

Over more than six decades, Roy has led groundbreaking projects to reintroduce white-tailed eagles, ospreys, red kites, golden eagles, and beavers to Scotland, and has successfully translocated red squirrels. As the RSPB’s senior officer in Northern Scotland from 1970 to 1990, he played a key role in restoring the osprey population in Strathspey and managing reserves such as Loch Garten.

In 1995, Roy founded the Roy Dennis Wildlife Foundation, internationally recognised for its innovative conservation work, including satellite tracking of migratory birds and advocacy for the return of lost mammals like the lynx. Recent successes include reintroducing ospreys to Dorset and sea eagles to the Isle of Wight.

Roy was made an MBE in 1992 and received the RSPB Golden Eagle Award in 2004 after being voted the person who had done the most for nature conservation in Scotland in the last 100 years. In 2024, he was awarded an OBE for services to wildlife and nature conservation.
