A walk with a rainforest theme discovering the Rusland valley's rich history and unique woodland habitats.
Start point: Rookhow, Rusland Valley
Length: 5.4km (3.3 miles) with 170m (557ft) of ascent
Time: 4 hours (approx.)
Walk grade: 3 (see grade description below)
This walk takes us through 3 different woodlands where we will find out about temperate rainforests, one of the UK's rarest habitats. We will have the chance to get close up to some of the unique species that thrive in the woodlands such as mosses, ferns and lichens. We will also explore the heritage, culture and history of the Rusland valley.
The route uses small roads between our three woodlands. In the woods paths are generally good but there are some sections that may be muddy or slippery , with some uneven terrain and steps.
Participants will need to dress appropriately for the terrain and weather and bring a packed lunch.
Grade 3 walks may include some moderate ascents and descents. The path surface might be earth, grass or stone and – while generally firm – it will have some loose or uneven sections, or be soft underfoot after rain. You will also encounter steps, gates or stiles and narrow sections. Most of our grade 3 walks are suitable for families.
Public transport: There is no public transport service to the Rusland valley.
Your confirmation email will include full details - please read it carefully.
