An inspiring sunrise experience to connect with nature and like-minded souls as the Hope Valley slowly comes to life

Welcome to Freshwalks. This Sunrise Hike event is part of our own vibrant business community programme and everyone is welcome to join us for an early morning of hiking and networking in the great outdoors. Feel free to come alone - most Freshwalkers do - and you'll be warmly welcomed or invite a colleague or client along for company. NB. Please note that these events start in total darkness and require you to bring a headtorch.

Route description

PLEASE NOTE THIS IS A LINEAR ROUTE AND INVOLVES TAKING THE TRAIN ONE STOP BACK TO YOUR CAR AR THE START OF THE WALK.

We leave Edale train station and immediately head the most direct way towards the summit of the ‘Shivering Mountain’, Mam Tor, the highest point of our sunrise walk.

Once up top we’ll have a quick stop for walkers to enjoy a hot flask or breakfast snack. We then walk along the undulating ridge towards Hollins Cross and, with some luck, the sunrise in front of us.

A sharp, steep climb up Back Tor is the penultimate effort before we again climb to the top of Lose Hill. From this point it’s all downhill into Hope and a well deserved breakfast.

Route: Edale - Mam Tor - Hollins Cross - Back Tor - Lose Hill - Hope

Distance: 9km

Max elevation: 517m / Total ascent: 450m

06:15 - Meeting

06:30 - Walk starts

07:45 - Breakfast stop (please bring a hot flask and/or some light snacks)

07:45 - Sunrise

10:00 - Walk finishes

Parking: Please park in the train station car park. Aim to arrive at least 15 minutes before the walk start time.

Public transport: Train from Manchester Piccadilly at 05:46 arrives in Edale 06:25, passing Stockport at 05:56 and Hazel Grove at 06:03.

Toilets: None at start or en-route

Post-walk: Granny May’s Hope Tea Rooms (at The Old Hall Hotel), Market Place, Hope, Derbyshire S33 6RH

Drivers can take the 10:39 train back from Hope to Edale (8 mins journey).
