About This Event

The BMC Hill Walking: Skills, Geology, Glenderaterra, Lake District event will take place in the Lake District. It is an outdoors event where attendees can learn about the geology of the area and explore it in a unique way. The event costs £2.00.

Explore Cumbria in a way you have never done before! Learn how the rocks beneath our feet to tell the story of our geological history

You are invited to join a peer-led walk, hosted by BMC Lakes Area volunteer, Richard Langthorp. This walk will explore the geology of the impressive Glenderaterra Valley and one of its tributaries (Sinen Gill), returning to the starting point along the same route we went out. Learn how ancient mudstones, siltstones and sandstones, previously caught up in an ancient mountain building event, were altered and hardened locally by the intrusion of granite. Witness the results of incredible heat forming minerals; observe oddities such as an onion ring pattern within rock and prepare for some geological gems!

We’re excited to welcome you for a memorable day in the outdoors!
