A talk by Anne Twomey will focus on four women: Anna Halam, Susanne Rouvier Day, Anne Sutton, and Jenny Dowdall.

Based on the recent publication Leading the Way: 12 Inspirational Women Who Contributed to Local Government, written by Aodh Quinlivan , John Ger O'Riordan and Anne Twomey. This talk will focus on four of the twelve featured women: Anna Haslam worked tirelessly to secure voting rights for women at local government level. Susanne Rouvier Day made history as the first woman to stand for local election in Cork. Anne Sutton became the first woman elected to Cork City Council. Jenny Dowdall broke new ground as the first woman to serve as Lord Mayor of Cork City.
