Curriculum development in AP requires providers to balance individual learner needs, academic progress, personal development and preparation for future pathways. A strong curriculum should clearly demonstrate what learners will learn, why it matters, how learning progresses and how impact will be measured. This session will support providers to review, develop and strengthen their curriculum offer, ensuring it is meaningful, ambitious and appropriate for the children and young people they support. What will the training cover? Throughout the day, we will explore: What a strong Alternative Provision curriculum looks like Developing a clear curriculum vision, intent and rationale Designing curriculum around the needs and starting points of learners Creating an ambitious but realistic curriculum offer Balancing academic learning with personal development and wider outcomes Building literacy, numeracy and core skills across your curriculum Supporting SEND and additional needs through curriculum design Developing clear learning objectives and intended outcomes Creating effective Schemes of Work and curriculum plans Sequencing learning and demonstrating progression over time Personalising learning without losing curriculum structure or ambition Linking curriculum to qualifications, accreditation and recognised outcomes Developing pathways towards education, employment, training and adulthood Capturing progress in areas such as confidence, engagement, wellbeing, employability and life skills Assessment, baseline information and measuring progress from individual starting points Demonstrating curriculum impact through evidence and data Using learner voice to inform curriculum development Reviewing and evaluating the effectiveness of your curriculum Practical tools and approaches that can be implemented within your provision Who is this training for?
