Join us for a journey of spiritual healing, in this participatory workshop based on the trance-inducing rhythms of Moroccan Gnawa music.

Come for a night of healing, insight, transformation, and release, brought to life by the evocative sounds of the Moroccan guembri (three-stringed lute).

Led by musician Omar Afif and author/creative coach Shze-Hui Tjoa, this workshop will reenact the form of the Moroccan 'lila' - a traditional ceremony that uses music and trance-like rhythms to bring about group healing.

Participants will take part in a blend of guided exercises during the workshop - reflective writing, meditation, vocalisation, and simple dance/movement - to help them connect to various energies in the lila's spiritual tradition:

⬜ White songs (Abiad): purity

🟦 Blue songs (Smaoui and Azraq): water and sky

🟥 Red songs (Ahmar): strength and confrontation

🟩 Green songs (Akhdar): spirituality and the saints

⬛ Black songs (Asouad or Lkohel): reckoning with pain

🟨 Yellow songs (Asfar): freedom and the break of dawn

Please wear loose and comfortable clothing, as some workshop activities will involve free movement on yoga mats.
