A five mile walk around the village of Sancton passing Houghton Hall and Parkland.
Led by the Wighton walkers we invite you to a leisurely walk through Houghton Moor and Houghton Hall park estate, a Grade I listed Georgian country mansion. Our walk starts in the pretty village of Sancton where we leave the Village Hall and head up passed All Saints Church with its 15th Centuary lantern tower which is unique in the East Riding in that it is octagonal from foot to top with an attractive stained-glass window. From here we head down the path towards Houghton Hall. From here we walk through the Hall parkland and past the hall and out onto the Low Road. After a short stretch we will set out onto Houghton Moor through the trees (woodland fir and recent oak replacement planting) and back around to Sancton where upon our return to the village hall we enjoy tea coffee and homemade cake.
This fabulous walk affords you mature mixed woodland, moorland (a chance to see deer and dragonflies) and then typical parkland offering excellent views from the foot of the Yorkshire Wolds with views back over the Vale of York, Holme on Spalding Moor and Drax Power station.
Distance: 5 miles
Additional Information: (No dogs/WC/Moderate walk)
This is a FREE event - please cancel your place if you are no longer able to attend the walk, freeing the space up for some one else.
