Exploring the opportunities, challenges, and governance requirements of AI in modern organisations.

It's one thing to build an AI agent. It's quite another to be confident it's always correct, safe and secure. Until you are, it's hard to confidently put it anywhere near a real business decision.

That gap is where much of AI's promised value gets stuck. Organisations are piloting, prototyping and proving concepts, but struggling to scale, because without governance they can't answer the questions that matter: Can we trust the output? Who's accountable when it's wrong? Is it safe, compliant and secure enough to deploy at pace? Far from slowing AI down, robust AI governance is what unlocks value. It's the foundation that lets organisations move from cautious experiments to confident, everyday use.

This session moves past the principles almost everyone now agrees on, and focuses on what effective governance actually looks like in practice: who takes responsibility, how accountability is structured, and how responsible AI gets embedded into real decisions.

Facilitated by UST’s Chief Data Scientist and Head of Responsible AI, Heather Dawe, the panel brings together senior voices from Equifax, Lloyds Wealth and Leeds Trinity University to share what's working, what isn't, and the hard-won lessons of building governance in fast-moving, regulated, high-stakes environments. Expect realist perspectives on the opportunities and risks of AI adoption, the new roles emerging to manage it, and why engaging with stakeholders across the business is key to success.
