Event delivered by Newcastle Culture Partnership & North East Cultural Freelancers

Let’s talk about prosperity. It’s a key theme of Newcastle’s Cultural Strategy. But it’s a hard thing to think about when you’re struggling to balance a budget or make ends meet.

How can we work together to develop a more dynamic, growing cultural ecology in Newcastle? How can we create more opportunities for good work for more people across the sector? And prosperity isn’t only about money - what else do we need to thrive?

This half-day event at Northern Stage invites cultural organisations, freelancers, venue staff, artists and community practitioners to come together to discuss, share ideas and spark action.

Co-hosted by Annie Rigby (Unfolding Theatre) and Sam Brimer & Leila D’Aronville (North East Cultural Freelancers), the session is the latest in a series of conversations around the six themes of Newcastle’s Cultural Strategy.

North East Cultural Freelancers are co-hosting the event to ensure freelancers are part of conversations about the future of Newcastle's cultural sector. Through their Hold the Door Open initiative, NECF works to create more opportunities for freelancers to build connections, influence decision-making and contribute to a more inclusive and sustainable cultural ecology.

Speakers include Oladapo Nuga (freelancer & podcaster) and Michael Slavin (Northern Stage). They will share thoughts from freelance and organisational perspectives on how we can increase prosperity across Newcastle’s cultural sector.

The conversation will also explore how organisations and freelancers can work together more effectively, sharing practical ideas for strengthening relationships and embedding freelancer best practice across the sector.

Alongside this themed conversation, we’ll share updates on the development of Newcastle Culture Partnership - including opportunities to shape its next steps.

There will also be time and space for informal networking and conversations. Free tea, coffee and biscuits are provided for this social part of the event!

We’re offering 10 x £75 bursaries to support attendance by freelancers. Bursaries will be offered by random selection. Priority will be given to freelancers who have not had a bursary for Newcastle Culture Partnership events in the past.
