The Academic Women Association (AWA) , in collaboration with the Department of Surgery and Cancer , invites you to a thought-provoking conversation with Dr Simon Fleming , exploring the role we can all play in creating academic and clinical environments where people feel they belong, are able to contribute, and can thrive. This interactive session will explore allyship, belonging and organisational culture, with a particular focus on how individuals can use their influence to challenge exclusionary behaviours and contribute to meaningful cultural change. The event is open to all staff, and we particularly encourage men and colleagues of all genders who want to learn more about allyship and their role in creating inclusive working environments to attend. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions and engage in discussion with our guest speaker, Dr Simon Fleming. He is a founding member of the International Orthopaedic Diversity Alliance (IODA) and currently serves on the Executive Board of the Faculty of Surgical Trainers. He is a past Associate Editor for Medical Education and The Clinical Teacher , and is a current member of the Editorial Board of the British Journal of Surgery. His scholarly work, as well as his widely recognised and influential presence on social media, engages a global audience in evidence-informed discussion on surgical education, assessment, professionalism, workforce sustainability and training culture Dr Fleming has delivered over 250 invited keynote lectures internationally, presenting his landmark and award-winning work on diversity and inclusion, improving surgical training, and challenging toxic and exclusionary
