About This Event

The Tolbooth will host an illustrated talk by Chris Leslie presenting A Balkan Journey, his 30-year photographic exploration of the post-conflict former Yugoslavia. The talk will bring Chris's photographic exploration to life. The event is free to attend.

An illustrated talk by Chris Leslie presenting A Balkan Journey, his 30-year photographic exploration of the post-conflict former Yugoslavia

Chris will present A Balkan Journey, in an illustrated talk on his 30-year photographic exploration of the post-conflict recovery and reconstruction in the former Yugoslavia. A Balkan Journey explores the psychological and physical legacies of war while examining the role of memory, resilience, and collective identity in processes of reconciliation and rebuilding.

Chris' talk will include exclusive excerpts from his latest documentary – The Partisan Necropolis (2026), which examines contested heritage in post-conflict Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

As a filmaker and director, A Balkan Journey project marked Chris' introduction to photography. Last copies of his Limited-edition books will be available to buy.

Doors at 1830hrs with a prompt start at 1900hrs in the Attic.

About Chris

Chris Leslie is an award-winning photographer, filmmaker, and director based in Glasgow. His work explores urban change, memory, and post-conflict recovery, documenting communities across Scotland, the Balkans, Eastern Europe, Africa, and Asia. His long-term projects include Disappearing Glasgow, chronicling the city’s social and physical transformation.

His photographs are held in the National Galleries of Scotland, and his writing has appeared in The Guardian. His debut feature documentary, Finding Family (2014), won two Scottish BAFTA New Talent Awards.
