Develop the practical skills, knowledge and confidence to respond to pre-hospital emergencies on our First Response Emergency Care Course.
Our 5-day First Response Emergency Care Level 3 course is designed for people who want to develop the knowledge, practical skills and confidence to respond to a wide range of pre-hospital emergencies.
FREC3 is ideal for those working or volunteering in environments where they may be required to provide a higher level of emergency care before an ambulance or other clinical support arrives.
Across the five days, you will take part in practical skills sessions, demonstrations, scenario-based learning, discussions and formal assessment. The course is hands-on and gives you plenty of opportunities to practise your skills before being assessed.
Topics covered include:
Scene assessment and casualty management
Primary and secondary surveys
Airway management
Basic airway adjuncts
Oxygen therapy
CPR and AED use
Recognition and management of medical emergencies
Major bleeding and shock
Trauma assessment
Head, chest and spinal injuries
Fractures and musculoskeletal injuries
Burns
Medical conditions
Patient observations and monitoring
Casualty movement and handling
Communication and handover
Managing incidents until further clinical help arrives
Our trainers bring real-world experience into the classroom and use practical examples and realistic scenarios to help you apply what you learn.
You can expect five busy, practical days with plenty of hands-on training. We focus on helping you understand why you are carrying out an intervention, rather than simply teaching you to follow a set process.
Assessment takes place throughout the course and includes practical assessments alongside the required knowledge assessments.
FREC3 is suited to people working in areas such as event medical services, security, emergency response, community response and other roles where enhanced first aid and pre-hospital emergency care skills are required.
By the end of the course, our aim is for you to leave with more than a qualification. You should leave feeling more confident assessing a patient, making decisions and providing effective emergency care when it matters.
