The Build A Business: Funding Your Business Idea workshop is a free event taking place at Wigan Library on 15th September 2026. The workshop aims to help individuals understand their options for funding a business idea.
Starting or growing a business but not sure how to fund it?
This practical and informative workshop will help you understand your options.
Important Information
All attendees must complete this Build A Business Client Registration Form to be able to join the workshop, unless you have previously submitted one. Please complete the form after booking your Eventbrite ticket.
To be eligible for this workshop, you must be a Greater Manchester resident or the owner of a Greater Manchester located business within the following GM authorities: Bolton, Bury, Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford, or Wigan.
Please arrive between 9:30-10:00am for networking and registration.
Workshop starts at 10:00am.
Funding Your Business Idea
Explore the three main types of funding available to UK businesses — grants, debt and equity — and work through a simple exercise to identify which option could best support your own business goals and stage.
This workshop will cover:
• What grants, debt and equity funding are and how they differ
• The pros and cons of each funding type
• Real examples of funding sources and when to use them
• A hands-on exercise to assess what funding might suit your business
Ideal for entrepreneurs, founders and start-ups ready to explore how to finance their business idea and growth.
Gain clarity on funding options, understand what funders look for, and leave with a tailored view of the most suitable route forward.
Presented by Daniel Ponting.
With over 20 years of experience working as a business advisor across the public and private sector Daniel specialises in helping businesses of all sizes from startups to multinational corporations to achieve their goals. With a blend of public and private sector knowledge, insights and practical expertise he helps businesses navigate the often complex landscape of business support.
He is a multi business founder, applying large company thinking, methodology and understanding to start up and scaling businesses, supporting clients to navigate relevant public and private sector support.

Failure to attend on two separate occasions without prior cancellation will result in you being barred from attending future workshops.
