Join Us for a five week Mindful Photography Workshop for Women

We are back!

We are delighted to announce a new 18-month long Mindful Photography project for women in York, made possible through funding from The National Lottery Community Fund.

Following the success of our Women in York project (2025–2026) which is now on show at Allerton Castle, Knaresborough and available to view every Tuesday, we are once again inviting women from the York area to take part in mindful photography events in the community, supported by local organisations.

Over the 18 months, there will be three workshops. This is the first opportunity to take part.

Workshop Details

Date: Monday 19 October 2026 - Monday 16 November 2026

We invite you to attend all five sessions as part of a course.

Time: 10.00am–12.00pm

Location:

St Sampson's Centre

Church Street

York

The workshop is fully funded and free to attend.

Free tea and coffee will also be available.

This is a women-only workshop and is fully safeguarded.

Who is this for?

This project is specifically designed for women who are currently facing challenges and would benefit from some time and space to focus on themselves.

You don't need any photography experience and you don't need an expensive camera. A smartphone is absolutely fine.

Our approach brings together mindfulness and therapeutic photography to create gentle, creative opportunities to slow down, take notice and explore the world around us from different perspectives.

What You'll Gain

Through the project, you will have opportunities to:

* Discover new perspectives and celebrate your identity

* Understand the connection between mindfulness and photography

* Take some time for yourself in a gentle, supportive environment

* Build confidence through creativity

* Make new connections and friendships

* Take part in an online photography project

* Find out about other fully funded Mindful Photography projects across York and North Yorkshire

Women taking part will also have the opportunity to **submit work created through the project for an exhibition at Allerton Castle in May 2027**, if they would like to be involved.

There is absolutely no pressure to exhibit your work.

What does a session look like?

These are gentle, safe and supportive spaces where women can come together, be creative and explore their identities and experiences through photography.

We usually go for a gentle walk, taking time to enjoy and notice York's architecture, nature, history and the small details around us that we might normally pass by.

Using simple mindful photography prompts, we slow down, take notice and explore new perspectives.

There is **no right or wrong way to take part** and no expectation that you need to be "good at photography". The emphasis is on the experience rather than producing a perfect photograph.

What to Bring

Please bring a camera or smartphone if you have one. If you don't have access to either, let us know.

As we may spend some time outside, please dress appropriately for the weather and bring suitable footwear and a raincoat or sunscreen if needed.

Tea and coffee will be provided.
