About This Event

Nano Nagle Place will host an introduction to Intercultural Competence for Artists, Creatives & Arts Workers on October 22nd. The session focuses on understanding equality, diversity, and inclusion.

Explore understandings of equality, diversity and inclusion in the context of intercultural competence.

This workshop explores equality, diversity, and inclusion through the lens of intercultural competence — the ability to engage effectively across lines of difference.

Participants will develop their understanding of key concepts, perspectives and practical strategies for building intercultural competence in the workplace, while gaining tools to enhance their cultural intelligence.

WHO'S IT FOR

This workshop is aimed at artists, creatives and arts workers, whether freelance or employees, who want to deepen their knowledge and develop practical skills in:

Engaging effectively across lines of difference

Advancing diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

WHY IT MATTERS

In increasingly diverse workplaces and creative environments, the ability to understand, navigate and engage across cultural differences is an important skill.

This workshop provides participants with the opportunity to explore different terminology, perceptions and approaches to equality, diversity and inclusion, while considering how intercultural competence can support more inclusive and effective working relationships.

WHAT PARTICIPANTS WILL LEARN

Participants will:

Explore social psychological perspectives on equality, diversity and inclusion within the framework of intercultural competence.

Learn about Deardorff’s A.S.K. Method for understanding and developing intercultural competence in the workplace.

Explore practical strategies for developing intercultural competence and cultural intelligence.

Gain tips and tools for intercultural management, supported by practical examples.

Develop greater confidence in engaging across lines of difference in workplace environments.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Throughout the session, participants will gain valuable insights, practical tools and approaches that can be applied to their own workplace and creative practice.

The workshop will combine key concepts and perspectives with practical examples, providing opportunities to explore how intercultural competence can be developed and applied in real-world settings.

NOTE: This workshop will have a short scheduled break. Tea/coffee provided.

Cost: Free* of charge for artists and arts workers in the arts and creative sectors in Ireland

*€10 refundable deposit to hold your place.

To support fair access and reduce last-minute no-shows, this workshop is free, with a €10 refundable deposit to hold your place. You’ll get a full refund when you attend. If you are unable to attend, please cancel via Eventbrite or email info@safetocreate.ie at least 48 hours in advance. Otherwise, the deposit will be non-refundable. We understand that even small costs can be a barrier. If this deposit is prohibitive, please contact us — we’re here to help.

We’re proud to offer the Safe to Create suite of training workshops at little or no cost to attendees. However, these sessions do require significant resources to run, so we sincerely appreciate your commitment to attending once a place has been reserved for you.
