On Saturday 26 September, the Leith-based workshop will open its doors for a free day of guided tours, live demonstrations and hands-on activities, giving visitors the chance to explore the spaces, tools and equipment used by Edinburgh’s community of makers. Following a brilliant response to last year’s event, visitors will once again be able to look around the workshop, meet some of the people who make there and find out more about everything from woodworking and metalwork to digital fabrication, textiles and more. Throughout the day, EOW members will be demonstrating tools, techniques and projects across the workshop, while guided tours will offer a closer look at the different making spaces and facilities available. There will also be plenty for families, with TinkerTown taking over the yard for a hands-on building activity where children can experiment, create and construct using scrap materials. Upstairs in EOW’s Event Space, Edinburgh Street Stitchers will present an exhibition celebrating creative clothing repair, alongside drop-in garment repair and fabric tag-making activities throughout the day. For anyone inspired to have a go themselves, the day is a chance to find out more about EOW, from becoming a member and using the workshop for your own projects to joining one of its classes and courses. Natasha Lee-Walsh, Director of Edinburgh Open Workshop, said: “Doors Open Day is a brilliant opportunity for us to welcome people into the workshop who might have walked past us many times without knowing what goes on inside. You don’t need to be an experienced maker to come along. It’s about having a look around, meeting people, seeing what’s being made and hopefully leaving with a few ideas of your own.” Edinburgh Open Workshop’s Doors Open Day takes place on Saturday 26 September 2026, from 11am to 4pm.
