Hosted by the University of Manchester and Oxfam, the Big North Styling Challenge is bringing together fashion lovers across Manchester, Leeds and Liverpool this Second-hand September.
In Leeds, the challenge will be led by Dr Esther Pugh from Leeds Beckett University, a passionate champion of sustainable fashion, vintage retail and the circular economy. Drawing on her extensive experience in fashion retail, visual merchandising and charity fashion initiatives, Esther will encourage participants to rethink fast fashion and discover the styling potential of pre-loved clothing.
The Big North Styling Challenge invites participants to demonstrate how pre-loved fashion can create innovative, trend-led looks while promoting more sustainable ways of consuming fashion.

Participants will work in teams to create an outfit inspired by Autumn/Winter 2026 trends using only garments sourced from the Oxfam Headingley Superstore.

Explore the Oxfam Superstore to source garments and accessories
Work collaboratively in teams
Interpret Autumn/Winter 2026 fashion trends
Create and present a complete styled look
Compete to be crowned the Leeds Big North Styling Challenge winner
The winning outfits will be selected by the judging panel and displayed in the Oxfam shop window, showcasing the creativity and potential of pre-loved fashion.
