About This Event

The Katumba Rhythm, Breath & Movement Workshop will take place on 20th September 2026 at the Katumba Culture Hub in Liverpool. This immersive wellness experience invites participants to explore Afro-Indigenous Brazilian rhythm, movement, and sound, aligning with the themes of the Autumn Equinox. Ticket prices range from £27.80 to £33.22.

A powerful, immersive seasonal wellbeing experience through Afro-Indigenous Brazilian rhythm, movement and sound.

As we reach the threshold of the Autumn Equinox, join us for an intimate journey of rhythm, breath, movement and reflection, creating space to pause, reconnect and intentionally step into the season ahead.

The equinox is a moment of transition and balance, when day and night come into near-equal measure before we move towards the darker, quieter months of the year. Together, we'll use this seasonal turning point as an opportunity to ground, release, restore and make space for what comes next.

Through breathwork, embodied movement, mindfulness, ritual and immersive live Afro-Indigenous Brazilian rhythm and sound, you'll be guided on a journey between stillness and movement, energy and rest, letting go and setting intention.

Katumba Rhythm, Breath & Movement is an intimate, immersive wellbeing experience weaving together breathwork, embodied movement, mindfulness and the grounding power of live Afro-Indigenous Brazilian rhythm and sound.

Guided by live rhythm, you'll journey between stillness and movement, calm and energy, individual reflection and collective connection.

This isn't a drumming workshop. Instead, the rhythm comes to you: you'll experience live percussion through sound, vibration, breath and movement, allowing your body to respond in whatever way feels right for you.

No previous experience is needed. Just come as you are.

What to expect

💧 Libation & Intention

We begin with a simple Afro-Indigenous Brazilian-inspired libation ritual, using water as a symbolic way to arrive, connect and set intentions for the journey ahead.

🌿 Breathwork & Grounding

Guided breath and mindfulness practices invite you to slow down, arrive in the present moment and reconnect with yourself.

🧘🏾‍♀️ Embodied & Somatic Movement

Explore gentle, intuitive movement inspired by somatic practice, yoga and Afro-Indigenous Brazilian movement traditions.

There are no steps to learn and nothing to “get right”. You'll be invited to listen and respond to your own body, moving in whatever way feels right for you.

🥁 Rhythm

Experience Afro-Brazilian rhythms through live & recorded percussion, sound and movement, allowing the vibrations and changing rhythms to guide and energise the body.

Participants won't be playing instruments. Instead, live percussion is woven throughout the experience for you to move, breathe, listen and respond to.

🌞 Immersive Sound Journey

Settle into an immersive soundscape weaving Afro-Indigenous Brazilian percussion and instruments with Tibetan singing bowls and other resonant sounds, creating space for stillness, deep listening and relaxation.

🍵 Tea, Connection & Integration

We'll close gently, with time to ground, reflect and connect over a special tea before heading back into the rest of your day.

Who is it for?

This experience is for you if you're looking for an opportunity to:

slow down and take some time for yourself

reconnect with your body and breath

explore movement without choreography or performance

experience rhythm without needing to play an instrument

release some of the pressures of everyday life

experience the grounding and energising qualities of live rhythm and sound

connect with others in a welcoming, intimate environment

No experience is needed.

Everything is offered as an invitation. You're always encouraged to listen to your own body, rest when you need to and participate in the way that feels right for you.

A different kind of Katumba experience

If you've experienced Katumba before, you may know us for our high-energy drumming, movement and performances.

This is something different.

Katumba Rhythm, Breath & Movement brings the same connection to Brazilian rhythm, movement and collective energy into a much more intimate wellbeing space.

Rather than learning to drum or perform, you'll experience rhythm through your breath, your body, movement, vibration and live sound.

With only around 20 spaces, the workshop is intentionally small, creating room for yoga mats and space to move, rest, breathe and simply be.

Around 2 hours | Limited to approximately 20 participants

Come as you are. 💛
