Wendy Widdrington and Uruj Anjum will lead an experiential workshop on attachment, rupture, and repair in supervision on 2 July 2027. Through clinical examples and discussion, the session explores relational dynamics and providing a secure base. Tickets start from £1.00.
Supervision is a relationship where attachment patterns, vulnerability, shame, power and the need for safety can emerge.
In this experiential workshop, Wendy Widdrington and Uruj Anjum explore what happens when the supervisory relationship becomes difficult. A supervisee may withdraw, become defensive, seek reassurance, avoid bringing certain material or struggle to disagree with their supervisor. Equally, supervisors may notice their own pull to rescue, reassure, challenge, over-function or retreat.
Drawing on attachment theory, we will explore how these relational dynamics can be recognised and understood. Through clinical examples, reflection and shared discussion, we will consider rupture and repair within supervision and how supervisors can provide a secure base that makes space for both vulnerability and appropriate challenge.
The workshop invites supervisors and supervisees to become curious about what happens between them when supervision feels uncomfortable, and how working with these moments can deepen trust, reflection and clinical learning.
