Enhance your wellbeing by joining Helen (from Unfurling) and Livia (from Living in Sheffield) for a relaxing time together in the woods

Well something different and relaxing is coming...

Another Living in Sheffield special event to celebrate 10 years, but this time it is something quite relaxing in partnership with @unfurling : The Living in Sheffield Forest Bathing with Helen.

Join Helen (from Unfurling) and Livia (from Living in Sheffield) for a relaxing time together as a group at Endcliffe Park woods for some Forest Bathing. Our meeting point will be at 10am outside Endcliffe Park Cafe, so we can walk together from there. (We will send an email to attendees with all the information closer to the event)

The session will be on Saturday 12th September 10am to 1pm (with the last hour reserved for a social picnic with our group, depending on weather). We have designed this session to be a safe space and a women-only experience (18+). This experience is suitable for everyone, even if you have never done Forest Bathing.

For those who may not be familiar with the term, forest bathing is a practice to mindfully connect with nature. It’s a translation of the Japanese ‘Shinrin-Yoku’. Think soaking up the atmosphere of the forest rather than an actual bath (there is no water involved)!

Forest bathing sessions invite participants to slow down and fully immerse themselves in a woodland environment - focusing deeply using the different senses to engage with the forest. The guide offers a series of invitations to prompt participants to connect with nature in different ways, often inspiring people to focus on and notice things that would usually pass them by. Research into nature connection and forest bathing suggests that spending time in natural environments can support relaxation, reduce stress and improve mood and wellbeing.

Limited capacity as we want it to be an intimate experience

About the facilitator Helen Todd: She has worked for charities and social purpose organisations for over twenty years, including seven as Executive Director of Art & Global Health Center Africa (ArtGlo). Her work is focused on community engagement and participatory arts, as well as leadership and management roles. "I’ve been lucky to work with and learn from a huge range of people and communities- from indigenous people in the Peruvian Amazon, to refugees in the UK and Malawi, to local communities in Sheffield", explains Helen.

More recently, following a desire to spend more time in nature led her to train as a practitioner of Shinrin-Yoku (forest bathing/ mindfulness in nature). Helen holds a Forest Therapy Guide Diploma from Nature and Therapy. "Learning ways to connect mindfully with nature has been super useful for me as quite a hectically brained person, and I really enjoy offering this to others. Mindful nature connection can be a very positive compliment to more clinical mental health interventions",
