About This Event

Ban Lei presents *153 Returning Birds* at Pollok House in Glasgow on 24 September 2026. The exhibition features Geneva-based artist Ban Lei’s work exploring bird flight paths across space and time, with three performance sets included.

In his new work, Geneva-based Ban Lei imagines flocks of birds flying in formation along flight paths which cross not only space, but time. Three sets of 51 sculpted birds constructed from bellows and whistles – small, medium and large varieties representing three generations – hang from the ceiling, connected by a red thread of fortune. The birds can be “played” by visitors, setting up a constellation of responsive sounds as the birds twitter among themselves, a gentle composition formed from intuitive energy.
