The Introduction to Chair Yoga workshop on 25 April 2027 will focus on providing tools to teach Chair Yoga to individuals with reduced mobility. Participants will explore various sitting stretches and movements suitable for those affected by aging or disabilities. The workshop aims to promote health and independence through accessible exercise.
Many people are unable to participate in a traditional mat based yoga class, and chair yoga offers a practical solution by finding ways to reduce complicated manoeuvres and movements to simpler, user-friendly procedures. Richard Kravetz's popular Chair Yoga workshop will provide the necessary tools to enable you to teach Chair Yoga to people with reduced mobility due to the effects of aging or disability. You will explore different ideas and concepts to help guide the less-abled towards maintaining a safe degree of exercise and movement and promote health & independence with a view to a healthier outlook. The morning will focus on a variety of sitting Chair stretches and movements for people with reduced mobility or physical restrictions which may include the Elderly, Dementia, Stroke, MS, ME and a host of other conditions related to this population. The afternoon will explore a variety of standing stretches, movements and sequences using a Chair which are more suitable for people with a greater degree of mobility but who have some limited restrictions which make a Mat based class unsuitable. You will also discover how a chair can be used effectively as a prop to enhance well known yoga postures which form part of a main-stream yoga session. Richard Kravetz Richard Kravetz trains yoga teachers in teaching chair yoga, yoga for adults with specific learning differences & how to take these ideas to Day Centres, Care Homes and Residential homes. He has been teaching Yoga for over 30 years to adults, children and people with special needs. He holds a BWY Diploma for teaching adults and children and served as County Rep for North London & City 2005-13.
