Alison Austin will conduct a practical workshop exploring how to adapt mindfulness practices for safety, choice, and agency in therapeutic work. The session moves beyond a one-size-fits-all approach by examining how factors such as ADHD, autism, and trauma influence the mindfulness experience. Participants will learn how small changes to language, posture, and focus can make mindfulness more accessible and supportive for all clients.
Mindfulness is much more than sitting still and focusing on the breath. In fact, there are many different practices and ways of bringing mindfulness into therapeutic and coaching work, but evidence shows that not every practice will work for every client.
This practical workshop explores how to move beyond a one-size-fits-all approach and adapt mindfulness to the person and context in front of you. We’ll explore how factors such as ADHD, autism, depression and difficult or traumatic experiences can influence how mindfulness is experienced, and how small changes to language, practice, posture, focus and choice can make mindfulness more accessible and supportive for all.
Whether you already use mindfulness with clients, have some training but want to refresh and broaden your approach, or are relatively new to using it professionally, you’ll leave with a more flexible, inclusive and responsive understanding of mindfulness, and practical ways to offer it with greater safety, choice and agency.
