This online webinar explores how menopause and perimenopause can intersect with mental health challenges and suicidal distress. Led by Gemma Fieldsend, the two-hour session offers a trauma-informed look at hormonal, psychological and social factors. It aims to help attendees understand the whole person rather than attributing every difficulty to menopause. Tickets start at £1.00 for the session on 6 November 2026.
Perimenopause and menopause can be periods of significant physical, psychological and social change. For some people, these changes can intersect with existing vulnerabilities, life experiences, relationships and mental health difficulties, and may coincide with increased distress or suicidal thoughts.
This two-hour webinar offers a compassionate, trauma-informed and person-centred exploration of the relationship between menopause, mental health and suicidal distress.
Jessica and Gemma will consider the range of changes that can occur during perimenopause and menopause, and how hormonal, psychological, social and emotional factors may interact with a person's existing experiences and vulnerabilities. We will explore how distress can present and consider the importance of understanding the whole person rather than attributing every difficulty to menopause.
A key focus will be on how professionals can have sensitive and supportive conversations when someone is struggling, including how to ask about suicidal thoughts in a calm and direct way. We will explore how to respond to disclosures, recognise when someone may need additional support, and consider appropriate risk, safeguarding and escalation.
The webinar will also explore the importance of curiosity, connection and compassionate responses when working with people experiencing significant change or distress. A trauma-informed approach will underpin the session, recognising that people's experiences of menopause are individual and shaped by their wider circumstances.
The session is particularly relevant to therapists, counsellors and mental health practitioners, as well as professionals working across health, social care, education, workplaces and community settings who may support people during perimenopause and menopause.
